Every child, parent, teacher, caretaker, and guardian should know that, "A Different Childhood IS Possible (Lark Sontag)".
"What Every Child Should Know", written by Lark Sontag and illustrated by Danae Silva Montiel, is a radical children's book that serves as a roadmap to teaching children about policy in real-time.
In this special video, join Lark Sontag for a book reading and get to know the illustrator behind the book, Danae Silva Montiel, as they chat across Turtle Island about the book and more...
Lark Sontag is a Children's book author and anti-capitalist Child development theorist, as well as an independent scholar and theorist focusing on the topics of Childhood, economics, race, and family.
For over ten years, Sontag has worked with school districts, colleges, and universities to support them on their paths to develop a liberating curriculum for classrooms and beginning teacher programs. Her independent research focus is young Black Childhood within the African Diaspora in the Global North and South. In addition to the work and research of Dumas, Matias, Freire, Crenshaw, Love, Lee, and Baker-Bell (and countless others) the last line in her manifesto "Another Childhood is Possible" guides Sontag's work, which she explains:
“The point of Childhood is not to create future exploited workers, the point of Childhood is to be a Child.”
Sontag has a BA in philosophy from Mount St Mary’s University and a MA in Human Development with an emphasis in Early Childhood from Pacific Oaks College. For more information please visit her newsletter, here.
